About The Friends of the Audi
The Friends of the Audi an all-volunteer partnership of the City of Concord and the Auditorium’s users (producers, presenters, performers, and audience), working together on a special mission: to preserve and maintain our historic municipal theatre and to foster its affordable and accessible use for the benefit of everyone in our community.
Concord City Auditorium, the home of community-based arts and entertainment since 1904, was threatened with conversion to city office space in 1991. The community rallied to save their theatrical home, forming The Friends of The Concord City Auditorium as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The three founding principles, which hold true today, include 1) no paid staff with everyone volunteering their special talent and interest, 2) no feasibility studies until every expert local brain has been picked, and 3) every possible dime will be spent in the local economy as we respect the economic multiplier.
Since 1991 the Friends have raised and invested over $2,000,000 (two million dollars!) in the city-owned building, thanks to the all-volunteer efforts supported by a generous and grateful community. Imagine: no paid staff, no development directors. Just a caring community. In addition, the volunteer Friends of The Audi gladly provide production, promotion, and hospitality assistance to all presenters. They work every year at a three-day “Pitch In”, shining the house in preparation for the annual season-opening GALA in September.
The Bottom Line: the lower the cost of a production, the lower the cost of the ticket. The lower the cost of the ticket, the more people can enjoy the Audi’s 100 events every year!
All Friends meetings and activities are open to all. Everyone is welcome! If you have an interest in volunteering with us, please let us know. Show up for one of our quarterly meetings which are listed on the events page.
